YayArt on the frontcover

Yay, we go a little surprise for you! We live to love art and promote it! So it was quite nice when Brian Stevn Hansen the editor of the book magazine Overgrunden was more than happy to put a YayArt pieces on the frontcover! The magazine is distributed in 10.000 copies all around bookstores in Denmark, so a lot of people will be seeing some YayArt.

Brian Stevn Hansen holds a master in Danish literature and Philosophy and felt that a lot of books didn't get the attention they deserved. What is then more obvious than starting a magazine devoted to that? We got to ask Brian a few question.

Hey Brian, where are you from?
I live in the northern part of Denmark near Aalborg.

Tell me about the magazine your from?
Overgrunden is mostly about fictionbooks. We don’t concentrate much about the day-to-day critic, but try to look behind the titles with interviews, theme-articles and portraits of classical writers for example. Overgrunden is also the place where publichers can inform the readers by advertising new titles. Our target group is people who pick up a book at least as often as they pick the remote control. The magazine is distributed to around 270 bookshops and 50 libraries in around 10.000 copies.

How do you find your front cover material?
I have found material both in ordinary art galleries and on the web. For example I found the material for Overgrunden #3 in an online gallery. It is quite great to contact an artist to suggest him or her to have a piece on the cover of a nation wide magazine. A really important part of the process of finding cover material is named Christian Brandt – he is the graphic designer of Overgrunden.

You choose a YayArt piece for the front cover of Overgrunden?
There is a part of idealism in making Overgrunden. Reading and writing bestsellers is fine, but there should also be room for the experimenting, fun, mad and challenging books beside the ordinary good book. By the way it’s quite rare that writers become bestsellers by their first book. I feel the same part of idealism in YayArt, but most important: it’s a nice piece.

Which art pieces did you choose and why?
We chose the Lost Memory by Tang Yau Hoong you see on the cover because of its simplicity. We felt it gave attention to the magazine. Besides, the piece tells a story. We like stories… ;)

I know, you got a YayArt piece in your home as well, tell me about it?
All the front covers are framed hanging in our living room. Yay, here was the chance of getting the real deal.

Do you have anything else on your mind right now, you'd like to share with the YayArt community?
Overgrunden is a magazine mostly concerned with literary art, but art is also great pictures. It is gourmet food, music and telling great jokes. Art is maybe most of all a state of mind, when we meet the extraordinary. I’ll keep an eye on YayArt. Feel free to tip us about art-pieces on www.overgrunden.dk.

Thanks to Brian, you're a darling. You can see the magazine online at Overgrunden online edition 6 or visit their web at Overgrunden.dk, but beware it's all in Danish. ;)

Yay, Antonella Spagnoli is back with another incredible art piece. "Life's a dream".
I've seen the artwork (L'Origine du monde) she's referring to and this is really an fantasy interpretation of it!
Antonella, you've got a wild fantasy and an inspiring mind!

This piece is just fascinating an amazing technique. Love the way you play with the colours, gradient, light, details & depth. I can keep on looking at it and new ideas pop into my head. Thank you for inspiring me. :)

Here is Antonellas description - I love it:
"You might know Gustave Courbet's artwork called "Origine du Monde". This is my fantasy transposition, how I see it with my eyes. As Caldiron de la Barca said, "life's a dream." And my painting reflects this in all its elements: a dreamy woman, the tree of life, the flying nourishing udders as fairy godmothers surrounded by an enchanted wood."

Yay, we're only having 25 editions only of "Life's a dream" on canvas. Go see it in the shop.

With the sales of the YayPrints rolling, we got alot of questions, about how to frame them?

So, by a brief look I found some really great framing tips for the new YayPrints. It is LP cover size. So every frame that fits an LP - will fit the YayPrint too!

Make it look like a million by framing it in a mat or passepartout! And those of you who think these frames cost a fortune, look at these frames I found at the worldwide Ikea chain. I'm sure you can find both more exclusive and special frames other places, but here's just just some tips that works for all of us.

All the frames are Ribba & Fjällsta frame from Ikea. Framesize 50x50cm with a passepartout that fits the YayPrint perfectly, price range from €15 - €20.

If you have other tips for YayPrints or framing, feel free to share. :)

October has arrived and the darkness is approaching Europe. The weather is cold and all light seems to have disappeared. Everything is black. I live for the light and find myself looking for it, when the winter is harassing my mood.

I know many of you may sit in parts of the world where it is completely different. But let me love this art piece by Antonella. A yay, for bringing light, beauty and hope into my day.

Here's what Antonella says about her masterpiece:
"Sometimes you may not have easy moments in your life...this girl is trying to keep her bad thoughts away. The thread is the single strand of reality that she's clinging to. However her grasp on the thread is slight...
The dark cats are like small evil entities who are trying to call her back in the strange world behind her. It may looks like a safe place, an easy choice, but it's outside reality. Don't let yourself go."

Yay, we're happy to welcome this art piece to the YayArt shop.

We're releasing it in a special edition, only 25 hopes in the shop.

Show me your home...

So quite a few YayArt pieces have left the comforts of the nest. And we started to wonder what kind of homes do they end up in? Do they end up in nice clean friendly homes and are they taken properly care of? We're worried.

So we startede to investigate what actually happens to our dear pieces when they leave the YayArt home?!

"Show me your home" has started and our first victim is Anders!

Who are you?
Well, I'm a 26 year old software developer from Denmark.

Do you have any experience with art?
No, I have nearly almost none experience with art. Bought two pictures when I was in New York a few years ago and had them framed when I got back home. My new apartment looked really empty with only those two pictures, so I was looking for something to make it look more like a home, than an storage department. :)

Which pieces did you adopt?
I bought Three Little Birds, Khaki Graffiti and Majestic. I fell in love with Majestic the first time I saw it, I knew it would look amazing on print, the same with Three little birds. I considered a few others, but I quickly narrowed it down to those two. Khaki Graffiti was last one I added, I wasn't sure if I wanted it, but there was something about it that warranted a second look. Now with it hanging on the wall there are no regrets. I found the perfect spot for it :)

Do you have any requirements for your art?
I really don't know to be honest, I know it when I see it. I wouldn't consider myself to be particular into art or anything. Although I do enjoy browsing the submissions and enforcing the swift hand of justice :)

Do you have any comments for the yayart community?
Keep the submissions coming. Just because the walls are covered for now doesn't mean there isn't room for a new masterpiece should it come :)

Thanks for letting us visit your home Anders, you're a darling!

And thank you to jemsweb for sharing the peeking photo.
