tech question

When I try to export my artwork as a .tiff in illustrator, it somehows changes the image size.
Even though the artboard is defined as 960x960 pixels it saves the size of the art as 850x950 pixels, how do I change that?

Hi Mads,
Illustrator export the actual artpiece, regardless of the artboard size. So if your artwork isn't exactly 960x960, it will export the actual size of your art piece. You can change this by making a cropping area, by making a 960x960 box, and selecting "Object - Crop Area - Select"

Hey,

I found this artist with a really cool profile pic. Is there somewhere I can comment or write directly to him?

What's going on.. For some reason the site won't accept my hotmail address. It tells me that it's an invalid email address. Does anyone know why that is..

Was this when you signed up? Can you tell me exactly what you entered into the field, preferably copy-pasting the address that didn't work? Then I'll have a look at the code and see if I can find the problem.

doidoi: Probably the upload robot got confused by something. I can see that we received the image alright. You can either try uploading it again or you can send art title and description to support@yayart.net together with your username and we'll take care of it. How does that sound?

Last night i check my artwork and it had 50 votes. Than i sent an email to my friends, asked them to vote for my art. 5 of them sad they voted, may be more. On my profile I read 8 new votes. But my total vote counter is still on 51. That can't be right.

somehow m not likin to ask my friends to vote for me..lquiet believe that if my work is good enough i ll get chance to hang it..if its not worth then its fine..if just votes by my friends gonna decide the result for mine work..then what is competition..for student like me its a best place gain the more understanding about work..and how people are responding to mine work..vots of mine friends will give me overconfidence about mine work..just a thought no offense

That is not the point. I did that because I need few more votes to get into YAY store. Art is nothing without audience, and if I wait to people to find this page on the net than my art will be nothing. Also, when I asked my friends to vote for me, I didnt ask them to say YAY, they have their own opinions.
Point is, any of those votes didn,t count, I still have 51 vote and I know they voted because they told me so.
If you want honest opinions about your work, than load them on deviantart.com and not on site that give a reward...just a thought no offense

mickeyns: The new votes count doesn't reset until the next day, I think. About the missing votes: we don't count the votes until people have registered as a safeguard against cheating. This was a bit unclear because we were fixing up the voting stuff in the last minute. Previously a reminder would pop up when people had voted for three pieces, we now pop it up immediately after the first vote.

So you just need to get your friends in and vote for more stuff and register when the popup appears, then their votes will be counted. This is by the way also more fair to the other artists - if you feel grumpy about this remember that it's the same for their friends. :-)

I submitted a work but it's not letting me view it. And is it possible to delete a submission after it uploads onto my profile page?

Hi Zero00chris,
It seems you've submitted the artwork 'roadkill' twice, so one has been rejected, could it be that one? - If its another piece, please let me know.

Its not possible to remove a submission, once its been submitted. Its the same with the votes. Keep things simple :)

I have a feeling that the voting for the entire art work should start at the same time. This kind of voting seems a little unfair to me. Because if someone has submitted their art much before me their voting has started much before even if my art is better and has chances of winning more votes.
I think once all the entries have arrived - the voting should be open for all of them simultaneously.

hey i have sent larger versions of mine work..there are little color changes in my newer work and older..because of high resolution images and i set the adobe and coral software on higher quality output..so there are slight color changes ..

will it work..or shall i send it again..

abhaysalve

Goutam: Fear not, what's important is that each work gets a reasonable statistical sample size of votes. After some time the ratings start converging - so a work may converge to that 45% like it and 55% dislike it. More votes don't change this percentage significantly.

But actually the number of votes is actually much more evenly distributed than you might think. I think this is because you get far more votes when you're on the first few pages of the voting section.

abhaysalve: If it's only slight changes, it's probably OK. I'll pass the word on. In any case we'll surely contact you if there's a problem.

So, everyone got mail from Yay, to upload images for printing? or only few of the best?

mickeyns
10:11 a.m. on May 19th, 2008

Only the highest rated. When we launched the competition, we had a discussion about whether to require people to submit in production quality from the beginning which was the original plan.

But it seemed silly to require everyone to spend time doing that when it would only be necessary for the highest rated at the end of the competition. So here we are now. :)

olau

Hi - about the high quality image, I am so lucky to be among the highly rated. In the mail I received it says: However, you haven't submitted the high resolution version with your signature..." What is meant by signature?
